My dear D & P: P & R very kindly came to see me on Thursday & they delivered copies of your book. It really is sooooooooooooooo very kind of you to make these available to extra people. I imagine that many of your colleagues & students have been very challenged & blessed by reading the book with the poignant cover. It is so very encouraging to read that your testimony goes on being very meaningful & challenging years after those events when you were at Kasaji. I could hardly wait to get my eyes on your book. It is still so meaningful & I relived all the scenes so much so that I was surprised to look down at the floor & see carpet instead of concrete & through the windows to see English flora instead of African. I saw rebels with necklaces of bullets rather than my friends coming into the house & I actually smelt the smells too which is quite amazing. I smelt deisel, death & corpses. I smelt native beer, pilchards & rice & I smelt fear. (I was so amazed at the time that fear produced such foul smelly sweat). I almost threw myself on the floor as I read of the the sound of the planes. I recall one visit of the planes when I was visiting the people on the hospital compound. I dived into one of their houses & realised that it would not offer me much protection as the roof was only of branches & thatch. The Lord's protection was far greater. I well remember the evening when you walked from the Davies' to our house singing Hallelujahs as this was an international word & then you & Hazel tackled the fractured arm. Often I recall those operations which you performed with such courage, skill & trust in the Lord.....& then I remembered the tears as the young men were taken to the ant hill to be shot. I recall reciting in swahili Acts 16:31 to all the youngsters who passed through the exit from the theatre to die a death by the ant hill. The local population were so fearful & unsure of what the furture held for them so the good soil was there for the seed to be planted & it was thrilling to know that quite a number turned to the Lord for forgiveness & salvation. I could comment on every part of the story which I relived yet again. It was as if I was going through it all again. The last time we broke bread together was so special & if I remember correctly we sang "shall have" instead of "demands" my soul, my life, my all..... & that promise is still the same as far as the "very much older A" is concerned. There may not be much time for me (as I am now 77) but The Ever Faithful, victorious triumphant Lord shall still have my soul, my life, my all. The Lord has been so faithful to me. I had been very influenced by C T Studd when I went to Kasaji in 1955 & so I decided not to pay pension stamps. I preferred to trust the Lord. When it came time to settle in this country the Lord provided me with someone to love me (whom I loved too) & provide for me & here I am now with so many dear loved ones in Glory but with a lovely home & provision for my every need. Even then the Lord does something very special from time to time just to remind me that it is ultimately Jehovah Jireh who provides. I am so very very happy that you both found each other & I rejoice too in your family & your testimony. How gracious & how merciful is our God. May the Lord continue to bless & use you for His Glory, for the extension of His Kingdom & for the building up of His Church. My love & many thanks for all the things that I learnt from you at that time so long ago. A
