RBC Mission Statement
"To go and make fully committed followers of Jesus Christ of all people groups starting in our Montreal communities, through worshipping, praying, teaching caring, serving and witnessing."
RBC is a Christian congregation associated with similar congregations under the name of Christian Brethren Churches in Quebec (CBCQ)1.
RBC began to meet in the Fall of 1929 on the eve of the Great Depression. (You can read more about our history here.)
RBC has met in its current building since 1954 and has undergone major renovations in 1965, 1980 and 1989.
Over the years it has been able to encourage the establishment of several new French assemblies as well as participate in the founding of Bethel Chapel (Pointe-Claire, QC) from which has come Westview Bible Church (Pierrefonds, QC).
RBC is guided by a team of elders, recognized by the congregation, and responsible for the overall leadership of the church. Two full-time staff members assist them. Various councils oversee a wide range of helping and caring ministries. Groups of individual members lead and operate the many activities at RBC.
Membership in RBC is open to all who love and follow Jesus Christ and who wish to serve Him with fellow believers at RBC.
1 - CBCQ "limits its responsibility essentially to civil matters or to those where a combined action is considered expedient. It exists solely as the servant of the assemblies affiliated with it and not by any means as a hierarchy over those assemblies." (Memorandum of the Christian Brethren Churches in Quebec, 2006 edition)
In March 2007, RBC updated its logo & mission statement to reflect the vision presented by the elders at the Annual General Meeting in February 2007. The expanded Mission Statement brings together our mission and our vision.
To summarize the changes:
If you are new to RBC and wondering what we're all about, we invite you to read this 1-page summary document. It will help you understand where we're heading in the next three years. Much prayer and discussion has gone into this process with good feedback coming from our congregation. The elders would be happy to chat through your questions.
